I passed by road test with a 96 and I can honestly say I didn't really learn to drive well until a year after I got my license.

I still drive way above the speed limit but that's because driving at 40 mph is lame.

That literally has nothing to do with DEM. When you refer to this particular concept, something has to be so contrived and outlandish that there's no other way to put it. If you ever watched a sports movie, for example, you already know how the story goes, but the hero(ine) prevailing against the odds and achieving victory or what have you cannot be chalked up to DEM simply because you wish to see it go differently.

Suspension of disbelief is also a rather subtle and sensible concept, because it's mostly got to do with not applying common (sometimes, Earthly) logic to a pre-established environment that a film presents to us and going along with its particular set of rules. The moment the movie is in violation of its own rules, you are indeed free to call bullshit as much as you want.

The funny part though is that when I do decide to stop completely at a stop sign or drive within the speed limit there's a cop nearby without my knowledge, so I've dodged a bullet several times

I wouldn't go at a speed where I wouldn't f feel safe. As much as I love driving fast, I don't want to cause a car crash. If I can handle driving at that speed, I will.
