Meanwhile the woman was just frightened of what they'd do to her, hadn't actually committed any crimes but in a moment of temporary insanity threatened to burn herself if they came near her and this is somehow grounds for execution?

Found it hard to enjoy the episode because it was too difficult to suspend my disbelief that this system would ever have taken hold, and the newbie who was apparently top of her class at academy can see how fuckstupid it is already which doesn't help.

That about sums it up.

That's the serious issue with the lack of original anime, they've forgotten how to do them. There's such a dependency on adapting manga/light novels that are already on solid ground with everything from story to characters and how the world works, that it's become impossible to do on their own.

The more recent an original anime is, the worse they seem to be. Remember Guilty Crown? That was the previous original anime that Production IG did, and it was a fucking nightmare.

I'm starting to wonder if it should just become taboo to make an original anime.

That's not what's happening here, it's quite the opposite actually.

The market is so oversaturated with moe that we're quick to embrace anything that appears to do without it.

And here those high hopes are met with disappointing execution, at least in my case, I don't want to sound too down on the show though, it wasn't bad and maybe I'll feel a lot more positive about the show after a few episodes but I don't think it was a strong start.

Certainly not thinking of it as "Anime of the year" right now, hell, not even the Urobuchi Anime of the year since Fate/Zero was earlier this year and not Anime of the season because Shinsekai Yori is my favourite from this season so far.

We'll see how it goes.

This one started off ok but I do see the problems with suspension disbelief. Lets hope the 2nd episode will help rectify this, I really want this anime to succeed.

What is up with horriblesubs having such gigantic 720p files these days.. used to be around 200/350mb. This one for Psycho pass is almost 600mb big... Same with robotics;notes

They're both Funimation HD streams, which have a much higher bitrate than Crunchyroll's streams, resulting in higher file sizes and video quality.

So... what's with her clothes? Is it some sort of nano-fiber that can change shape/color, or is she actually naked and she's just wearing digital clothes to cover herself?

I think the Suit she wears when she goes to the mirror is probably actual clothing but they can use the holographic clothing to override it visually.

I feel better about the show already after this episode, compliments the rushed, on the job exposition of the first episode well and does a better job of world building since the first ep was set in the slums and in parts out of the reach of the Sibyl system.
