If you really want to know the truth about "guns" then research the states that have the most violence against them and how strict their rules are on having them. For example...Texas, where everyone owns "guns" there are barely and "gun" related violence, while in Illinois where "gun" laws are really strict, there are a lot of "gun" related violence. (particularly in Chicago)
Just a vague example, The bottom line is, the people who actually take the time to register themselves a weapon are less likely to use that weapon for a crime. After all it's easily linked back to the owner. While the others who actually use guns for crimes usually acquire it illegally and regardless of how strict laws are they will still get their guns. In the end it's just screwing the people over who want to have a gun in the household to protect themselves.
