See...now...when I watched that opening for the first time, I had GREAT expectations. Then it turned out to be the Haruhi of mecha.

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi became a very popular anime, a trend, a cult favorite. It was never actually good, or made any sense, but everyone liked it anyway. Infact I will venture to say that people that never liked aliens, time travelers, or occult fanatics liked it just because. Haruhi had those themes and yet barely scratched the surface with them, and above all made no sense whatsoever.

Fast forward in time, all of my friends are watching TTGL. The first thing that one of them says to me, and the rest agree "I always hated mech type anime, but this one is really great". As a mech anime fan, this offended me. But to include TTGL as being better than mech anime, what made it better? There are about 3 episodes that accurately depict the awesome-ness of that OP, and then it changes. It gets darker, it gets more...moe~, it starts bringing in all these wacky stereotypes and cliches, and above all the story makes no sense.

Was it fun to watch? Of course. As much fun to watch as Avatar, which made just about as much sense. Arage

You were around here when I was hating on TTGL before, weren't you? It's nothing new to mostly anyone at AF. TTGL has always gotten on my nerves as a huge disappointment.
