Gears Next-Gen Microsoft Exclusive Hinted, Could Be Like Halo & Gears

Black Tusk Studios, a newly formed Microsoft studio, hints it could be working on a new IP that might be a new space shooter like Gears Of War or Halo.


Black Tusk Studios, the recently renamed Microsoft Games Studio Vancouver, is hiring for a triple-A IP that could be a space shooter on the scale of Halo or Gears Of War.

According a job post on its website it is working on ‘Microsoft’s next big entertainment franchise’.

The Black Tusk job post, spotted by a Neogaf user, doesn’t go into details simply stating who the new studio is:

“Black Tusk Studios is dedicated to creating immersive, AAA games that push the limits of Microsoft's entertainment platforms. Located in downtown Vancouver, Canada, we are part of the Microsoft Studios family, and we are growing. Do you have what it takes to keep pace with the best talent in the industry? Do you want to help define Microsoft's next big entertainment franchise? Let's talk.”

The posting is bullish in its assertion that Black Tusk is working no something big and admits it’s looking to attract developers to work on a triple-A project it describes as ‘big, really big'.

“Black Tusk has assembled a team of seasoned game industry veterans who are united in their passion to create emotionally engaging AAA gaming experiences. We hire the best talent from Vancouver and around the world, and our global recruiting effort is reflected in the diversity of cultures and backgrounds on our team.”

“Our people are talented, creative, fun-loving professionals with a desire to be part of something big. Something really big.”

The job post doesn't say if the new IP will be heading to next-gen platforms, but it does confirm it wants to 'push the limits of Microsoft's entertainment platforms'.

But, according to internet sleuth Superannuation, this ‘new IP is a space shooter’ on the ‘scale of Gears or Halo’.

The lead designer of Crysis 2 is also apparently working on it.

The upcoming 2013 issue #3 of Weekly Shōnen Jump (set for release this Monday, 17 December 2012) contains new information about — as well as the first screen shots for — the previously-announced Project Versus J video game, now confirmed for release on the Sony PlayStation 3 and Vita, and is classified as a “team battle action” game.

Images in the magazine show off Toriko’s “Nail Punch”, Luffy’s “Gum-Gum Stamp”, and Goku’s Kamehameha. The magazine also asks readers to enter a new contest by choosing up to three characters they feel are the strongest and why (as well as detailing their favorite manga, which game consoles they own, their favorite game genre, and how many video games they own). Naturally, rivals and female characters are OK, too! From all those who enter, 10 people will be chosen by lottery to receive a PlayStation 3 system. Votes will be tallied to determine which characters make the game’s final roster cut. The deadline is 31 January 2013, so that presumably puts the game’s release at least at some point in time after that

Yeah, but if the Vita only gets games that you can play on any other systems, it's like "Why should I bother?" most of the time. And I hardly think a few extra features will get a lot of people buying it. Which is a shame because it's actually a pretty good handheld system.
