[Wii] The Legend of Zelda
You all should know this about me right now. But The Legend of Zelda has probably been one of the largest of my fandoms in my entire life. I began playing the game when I was very very young on my NES (the original LoZ) and I have moved to playing every other LoZ game that there is. I could name them all for you, but that might be a little silly and... egotistical? Which is not what I aspire to be, I assure you.
Are there any other die hard LoZ fans around here? I am curious.

I have played quite a few of the games. I have beaten very few of them, but I am working on it. My favorites are the isometric view games. I do not know which one is my favorite, but they all have a place in my heart. I have yet to play the Oracle games, but I will get my hands on them eventually (once I get a bit more money).

Oh! The Oracle games are excellent. I think I prefer Ages over Seasons though, simply because Nayru is much prettier than Din. <_<; Definitely play both of them if you can.
My favorite game has to be LoZ the original for the NES just because I think it is the truest LoZ. Some of the games have... dwindled from the paths so to speak as of late. But if you play through the original LoZ, there is literally nothing wrong with it. It is LoZ in it's first and most perfect form. I think that Nintendo is trying too hard to improve LoZ when it never really needed improving.
My other most favorite LoZ games are Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess (I have to like that game, but mostly because I cosplay that specific Zelda IRL), and Oracle of Ages.
But I have loved all of them for their own uniqueness and individuality. I just finished up Skyward Sword a few months ago. It wasn't my favorite, but it definitely was a good one- as all LoZ games are. :)

I have a friend that also says the truest Zelda games is the original. The reason is because it is an adventure and you really don't know where you are supposed to go next. He would like to see a new game that goes back to that way of playing.
I do agree that the later games have way too much narrative and need to be scaled back and bring that charm. We really just need a good isometric sprite Zelda title again.

Re: [Wii] The Legend of Zelda
haha! Definitely. LoZ needs subtraction, not addition. (In my opinion.)
I think there were some good key elements they added in recent LoZ games, but it seems to be straying from the medieval feel that I always got from the LoZ titles. I just felt it was set in a medieval setting, now it's all over the place because of the ridiculous time line -_-;

Re: [Wii] The Legend of Zelda
Yeah, I don't consider Spirit Tracks or Phantom Hourglass to really be Zelda games. Well that also has to do with the necessity to use the touchscreen to play the game (that should be an option not a requirement). The same thing goes with Skyward Sword. They should have the option to use a standard controller if you want.
But yeah, they really need to go back to what made the game great. There doesn't really need to be a narrative. Hell that kind of destroys what Zelda is about, and that is adventure. A scripted adventure is good, but it doesn't make the game special. It is fun in trying to go through dungeons out of order to see if you can do it (one reason I like Tales of Symphonia; yes it is an RPG, but it let's you tackle some dungeons out of order).

Re: [Wii] The Legend of Zelda
Oh. I have never played Tales of symphonia, but I've heard only ever good things about it. I love good rpg's. I will keep an eye out for it.
I wonder if an LoZ RPG would be any good. Like, a turn based. The adventure if link was kind of an rpg due to the fact that you leveled up, but it wasnt turn based.
I think... I think. LoZ needs to learn some things from Elder Scrolls and Shadow of the Collossus/ICO. Amazingggggg games...

Re: [Wii] The Legend of Zelda
Turning it into a RPG would ruin Zelda. The nature of the game is to explore the world and make your own adventure. Sure it has that aspect of a RPG, but does not address any other factors of the genre by creating a deep narrative and other key components.
What would be best is to simplify the next game by going back to what made the series great, pure adventuring without heavy plot.
