I thought I'd try playing Dark Souls version 1.0 (no patches) by reformatting my PS3's hard drive. Only one conclusion can be made: they really made this game easier with the patches. In version 1.0, my broadsword+2 is only doing 20 damage to the Balder knights. Its necessary to riposte them, then backstab them, and then finish them off with a slash in order to kill these guys. I've been blasting through them without issue for a long time on the PC version, but right now they are one of the most troublesome enemies I've come across.
