There's a few reasons why your image isn't quite as expected. Brightness, contrast, color, back lighting, saturation, sharpness etc. can cause distortions if they're not properly balanced. Pixelation can be cause by either that, faulty cables, faulty video drivers/card. (For a video playback I'd blame the media player you're using)

Crap... is there a guide anywhere about the optimal levels? I highly doubt it would be my vid card, and my cables are pretty new

You can google your monitor/HDTV and search around the optimal settings, there's DVD/Blur Rays meant for these kind of optimizations but you're not willing to shell 40 bucks for that.. nobody really does. Though, if you have any Pixar movie Blu Ray disc, they all come with one of those neat THX HDTV optimizers, like a guide. It's usually in the options menu.

I got a double kill in Chivalry. The two cleanest decapitations I have ever pulled off. If I knew it was coming I would have gotten a picture...

That problem with video playback when you're not streaming would likely be the media player, codecs or just shitty encoding by whichever group uploaded it.

If it was your monitor we wouldn't be able to see the problem in screenshots.
