If you go to a thrift store, they can end up being cheap as fuck.
Hardest thing is get over the fear of scrutiny, honestly... and it's not that fucking bad. (Though to make it easier, you should know what size you'd be before shopping... then you wouldn't have to check the clothes against your body... and you wouldn't get clothes that are too big or small.)

Oh, and don't trust ANYTHING that says "one size fits all"
One size fits all means "This shit barely fits those who are more than slightly above average for the gender we're working with."
