I'm not sure if I understand it? what did they change?

Code Geass always appealed to fangirls as well as guys.

You shouldn't put too much stock in demographics.

It's like Black Butler being classed as Shounen because it was published in a shounen magazine, even though it's drawn by a female yaoi artist and filled with fanservice for girls.

The fanbase is comprised almost entirely of obnoxious squealing fangirls.
