Metal Gear Solid 5 Confirmed

Hideo Kojima spoke with a French gaming magazine, dropping the first hints about Metal Gear Solid 5, and discussing where Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance fits in the overall franchise.

First, Kojima confirmed that Solid Snake will be back in Metal Gear Solid 5, but he didn't discuss what role he'd be playing in the game. The reveal came as Kojima was discussing the somewhat controversial Revengeance, a game developed by Platinum Games and substantially different from other games in the franchise.

This [Revengeance] is not a game about our beloved Solid Snake. It is a spinoff that tries something different. We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots.

He also confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 5 would be using the Fox Engine, which is less of a surprise considering it's the studio's in-house engine, designed to make multi-platform games easier and faster to construct and publish.

The big surprise, really, is that Metal Gear Solid 5 is in the works, as there were no hints of this at E3. Konami has confirmed the comments are legitimate, although that's all they're willing to say at the moment.

It's time for Kojima to make a spiritual successor to Metal Gear, something that revolutionizes tactical stealth gameplay.

How old will Snake be in this one? I dont want to play as an elderly man with back problems from hiding in cardboard boxes all his life.

It's likely that we'll only play small part(s) as Solid. I wouldn't be shocked if there are new/returning characters that we'll be in control of for most of the game.

It's easy, they clone him again, and voila. That, or we get another prequel, despite of all the loose ends being tied already. Shrug. It's interesting, nonetheless.
