oooh thats probably how i keep getting texts my ringtone goes off every time theres a reply, i must have hit it on accident with my phone when i was using it a couple days ago

They were all thinking about it last we knew, but Reddit's going to go ahead themselves. Hopefully, the absence of the huge amount of traffic they give to all the other sites (Amazon, Twitter, Google) will nudge them to do something as well.

Does a man stay silent the whole day before his untimely death? No, he strives to make the best of his life until the very bitter end. Blacking out a website right before it's going to be taken down doesn't sound like the right thing to do. That being said, I don't think the major companies are going down without a fight. I don't, however, see what this has to do with denying service to their users.

I don't want the bill to pass, but I don't think it's as bad as people say it is, I just like things the way they are concerning piracy and fair use.

We're talking about a protest. If anybody huge does it, it will be impossible to ignore. Even the stupid fucks in all the media companies who won't cover SOPA will have to in order to explain to their viewers why they can't do their damn reporting that day.

It's pretty obvious that the mainstream media gets most of its information from the internet now. With major outlets of information going down (yes, amazon is very relevant to market news) in protest, it can't be ignored.

Think about this for a second, what can Amazon gain by going down for a day, and if SOPA/ProtectIP passed, how would it adversely affect them, if at all? So then, consider losing a day's revenue, not having any real reason to worry about these bills in the first place. They could lose their relations with other companies that didn't go down but DEPENDED on Amazon for revenue. They'd go elsewhere (if Amazon went down for for a full day) and Amazon would be up to their necks in shit.

So no, I don't think they're going down at all.

The products on amazon are a result of collaborations carried out over the internet. Many of the merchants on amazon are online-only business who could one day be black-holed for not doing something a media company wants. They'd lose their foundation and amazon store along with it since it can't support their entire business. Those merchants play a large role in keeping amazon a competitive e-tailer. A day's revenue won't mean squat if they lose them.

Many people believe SOPA will outright destroy the 1st amendment of the Constitution, Freedom of Speech, by allowing companies to take action against people that try to voice their opinion. What the bill is supposed to do is expedite the already in place DMCA laws. If it passes, I think anime will be the same as before, unlicensed = good, licensed = bad.

Pffft, no. It means Sony will be able to freeze your domain and take your site off the internet - without proof that you're even infringing on one of their properties. The government will be able to do it just because they feel like it.

Them getting shut down shouldn't happen because they are not in the U.S. and cannot be touched by U.S. law. However they would DNS block the site so people who don't know the IP address couldn't connect to the site inside of the U.S.
