Well it doesn't work for this DLC. And it is DLC, not a game.

As for DoW micromanaging, do you mean all of Dawn of War or DoW2: Retribution? Because the first four games in the DoW series play quite differently to the three in the DoW2 series.

Perhaps my experience was instituted just for the summer sale. And i'm only talking about Dawn of War 2.

There's a lot less micromanagement in DoW2 because you use far fewer units at any given time. Hell if you play Last Stand you only control one hero (and maybe a summoned squad if your hero has that skill). I haven't played Retribution yet, but DoW II and Chaos Rising limited you to four units per mission (single player obviously): your commander and three other units.
Multiplayer is different as base building is gone and you just capture points, kill enemies and churn out more troops from your pre-built base as you upgrade it.

DoWII is less real time strategy and more real time tactics.
