NeoGAF has an insane amount of influence in the gaming industry, and it's the one forum where developers go to interact with gamers. Just about every Community Manager from any [Western] developer has a GAF account.

That's actually not the case anymore. As it's gotten so big, and still only has like 20 Moderators, only the big offenders are the ones that get banned.

As for the exclusivity, if you have a work or student e-mail, you can sign up using that.

I occasionally lurk the Anime thread and see people have been banned over harmless jokes and/or sarcasm all the time.

It's funny because I joined GT for gaming discussion, then joined AF as I got interested in Animu, now I'll go to a gaming forum just to check the Animu thread, whilst ignoring most everything else on there.
