If you do it, and you're looking to find a vaguely meaningful connection... I might suggest you try to discuss things other than what Anime-related shit you like, since liking nerd crap is pretty much a given. Try bringing up something that is next most important to you... like maybe politics, or something.
Sure it'll make it harder to find someone... but if you just talk about anime, you might end up with someone who loves figures and whatever the fuck animes you enjoy the most... but are also like... idiot communist hipster pony lovers.

I've been on one for the past... year, and I've managed to talk to a few girls that were really really awesome... Or well... maybe two.
Shit didn't work because, well one I didn't have interest in (probably because she was handicapped... I feel like shit for that), and the other didn't work because she lived like 200 miles away, and after a while, her local partners took precedence over well... me.

Shit was inconvenient.

Pai would probably have it worse since I imagine he lives in an area with lower local population density.
