It did have its horror show through, it just wasn't very good. I remember FEAR 2 as nothing more than a shooter with Alzheimer's; it kept forgetting about the horror aspect because it was too busy having you shoot through dozens of props. It was barely satisfying as a shooter and not at all as a horror game.

Completely agree with the first paragraph.

You're right when you say they got distracted at points and forgot that the games concept is a heterogeneous mixture of action and horror, not homogeneous. It played a large part in the games downfall. But I don't think quality can or should be able to effect its definite labeling as a horror game. As a stupid example of my point, I hate mint chocolate chip ice cream, I think mint in any dessert is an abomination. But it's still ice cream, whether or not I'm partial to it. My opinion of it can't deny its existence. FEAR 2 is a horror game, FEAR 2 is an action game. That can't just be denied because it didn't meet its quota.

Games are difficult to define, especially with genre-splicing, FEAR is a product of this.

I don't think you're stubborn at all for thinking that way. That's the best way to go about it.
