You should just skip the first FMA and go to Brotherhood.

And I do have a backlog. Only Welcome to the NHK and Sword of the Stranger come to mind at the moment.

I don't like skipping stuff normally

I only said it because Brotherhood is the true adaption of the manga, while the first FMA's story veered somewhere halfway in only because the manga wasn't anywhere near finishing. And I enjoyed Brotherhood much more.

I don't think you can like the first FMA by skipping right to Brotherhood. The original FMA series was great in its own right with its take on things. It's just that Brotherhood is that much better. If you want to watch the first series, do it first, especially the events in the first half of the series because that was canon to the manga and really skim it in Brotherhood.
