There was a screen testing over the Super Bowl weekend and all people have been doing is praising it so far. Lucky bastards.

The action was top notch. Beyond that I'm not going to praise it as anything more than a good robot action film. Parts of it reminded me of Evangelion, actually quite a few parts reminded me of Evangelion. The story was predictable from the beginning all the way to the end. I feel like they could have done more with the movie. I'm still waiting for a good mech blockbuster...

Except it has the substance to be more...

It has quite a few deep parts that were left really shallow. Not only could the movie have been a super fucking awesome action movie, it could have coupled with a deep story.

What people assume now is if it has enough action the story can lack. That shouldn't be the case. The story makes the action much more involved. Understanding the characters and the struggle they face is key.

it was perfectly within my expectations. it was pg-13 so they couldn't include any truly brutal monster deaths liek them getting ripped in two and guts raining down on the people below, but it was a fairly campy fun giant robot action funtime

Really enjoyed it. Ending could've been better, though.
