Is Joseph Gordon-Levitt already set to play Batman in 'Justice League'?

Post by Vanellope Von Schweetz on Wed Nov 28, 2012 1:25 pm

It's starting to look like Warner Bros may hold Christopher Nolan in the highest possible regard, but that in the end, they own their characters and they will decide what they're going to do with them.

After all, we heard much talk this summer about how the Batman franchise was ending, at least as far as the current version is concerned, and I believe that Nolan was serious when he said that was the last story he had to tell about the character. But Nolan is working with Warner Bros. on the "Man Of Steel" relaunch this summer, and as we reported earlier today, director Zack Snyder is starting to hint at the idea that his film is part of a larger continuity.

Certainly, the ending of "The Dark Knight Rises" hints at a possible future for the franchise, and there has been much speculation about whether or not they'll work to connect the end of that film to the larger world of DC properties that Warner is so desperate to create. Over the last couple of weeks, that speculation seems to have turned into conversation, and that conversation seems to be solidifying into a plan.

According to sources, Joseph Gordon-Levitt absolutely will be appearing in "Justice League" as the new Batman.

Now here's where things get interesting. The more insistent the drumbeat has become, the more poking around I've been doing, and it's looking like we may see Gordon-Levitt in the suit earlier than that. They're a long way from filming anything "Justice League" related, but they appear to be solidifying deals for Gordon-Levitt and, potentially, at least one other actor from the Nolan films to do… something.

So let's take what we know and speculate a little bit. How crazy do you think fans would go if Superman were to take to the skies at the end of "Man Of Steel," finally ready to fully accept his role as mankind's most powerful protector, only to have the closing credits interrupted when something catches his attention and he swoops down out of that sky, landing on a rooftop where Jim Gordon stands next to the Bat-Signal, interrupting just as the new Batman arrives for a chat about Gotham's latest problem?

Pretty crazy, I'd wager.

Keep in mind, I'm not saying that will happen at the end of "Man Of Steel." I'm just saying that Warner Bros. has been studying the way Marvel handled their build-up to "The Avengers," and once they've made the decision they've apparently made, why not start laying the groundwork as soon as possible?

More than ever, I'm curious to lay eyes on "Man Of Steel," and to see just what Warner has in mind for the future. It's going to be fascinating.

This would actually kind of make sense if they did this because of what WB said about the Batman movies before DKR came out. Something about reinventing Batman or taking him in a new direction and not necessarily rebooting it. Also then mentioning a Justice League movie in the same article. Of course that was when the movie coming out in 2013, but it's nice to think that they have been planing this for a while.

Much prefer this over rebooting.

I really like JGL as an actor, but Batman's supposed to be this bulky dude, even if the suit alone adds a bit to that. He's kind of a smaller guy and I don't see him being able to build himself the way Bale did time and again for each movie. That's my only complaint thus far.

He can always take meds =P and do lots of exercise, i mean have you looked at bale when he was doing the machinist? He was fucking thin, and he got really bulked up for batman begins.

I really, REALLY want to see this. JGL is one of the best actors today and i would love to see him as the new batman, though i wonder if he really is going to be batman or nightwing =S. A JL without batman would be extremely weird, but i would prefer if he doesn't become batman and instead becomes nightwing. That would be a nice gesture with nolan.

JGL has actually been bulking up for a while. He mentioned it on some talk show for a movie or whatever, maybe even a TV show. Though.. regardless, if they are going to indeed add him in the movie as Batman, it's pretty much as far away from the comics as possible so one of the things I'm not really thinking about is his size as the Batman because if they are going this route, then this will most likely be a completely new Batman that we have never seen before.

Also, as long as bat nipples isn't in the movie, I'll be fine with it, lol.

Yeah, but Bale's a freaking beast when it comes to this. He's made a career out of dramatically changing his appearance for various roles (see The Fighter).

It does depend on what they actually decide to do with the movie, what their take is, but I still think JGL is a bit too baby-faced to have him straight up fill Batman's boots. I dunno, I'm not entirely skeptical, but I wouldn't sing any praises yet.

I completely agree. I'm interested to see what they do with the new Batman if this does happen and all, but I can see where you're coming from. Batman is known for being dark and Bruce Wayne is known to be a laddies man and even an out going kind of guy at times, and I always thought this was the thing that Bale nailed in the movies and it's a vibe I didn't really get from JGL's character in DKR.

To be fair, while he did get character development in DKR, they didn't go in-depth enough to know *that* much about him. It could work, considering how at the end of the movie he's a bit disgruntled, he's given up on the force and there's that mention of him being "the angry kid" who's never moved on. This is, of course, in the idea that they'll work with the continuity of Nolan's movies, which might not be the case.

Then again, Justice League won't be a Batman-centric movie, so they'll have to keep things rather short regardless, unless they plan on making a 10-hour movie.

Agreed.

However, I say we should give him a chance. I like him.

Could be good... but using a non-Bruce-Wayne Batman in the Justice League gets my knickers in a twist.

Dis old news.

There's been script changes and even script drops since November. Getting really unlikely this is even going to happen. :p
