Wii U GamePad: Wii U™ GamePad

The Wii U GamePad controller removes the traditional barriers between games, players and the TV by creating a second window into the video game world.

It also offers a new way for viewers to engage with their favorite entertainment. The GamePad incorporates a 6.2-inch, 16:9 aspect ratio LCD touch screen, as well as traditional button controls and two analog sticks. Inputs include a +Control Pad, L/R sticks, L/R stick buttons, A/B/X/Y buttons, L/R buttons, ZL/ZR buttons, Power button, HOME button, -/SELECT button, +/START button, and TV CONTROL button.

The GamePad also includes motion control (powered by an accelerometer, gyroscope and geomagnetic sensor), a front-facing camera, a microphone, stereo speakers, rumble features, a sensor bar, an included stylus and support for Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality.
It is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and weighs approximately 1.1 pounds (500 g).

Other Controllers: The Wii U console is capable of supporting two Wii U GamePad controllers, up to four Wii Remote (or Wii Remote™ Plus) controllers or Wii U Pro Controllers, and Wii accessories such as the Nunchuk, Classic Controller and Wii Balance Board.

At a special event today in New York City, Nintendo announced the follow up to the hugely successful Wii console will be available on Sunday, November 18th.

The new console will be backwards compatible with all the games and accessories of its predecessor.

More than a year after Nintendo first showed the system to the public, the company has revealed that the North American launch date for the Wii U. Two of configurations will be available, with a Deluxe Set model with a 32 GB of memory and a Basic Set version with 8 GB. The deluxe set comes in black and will cost $349.99 and the white basic set will cost $299.99.

Also relating to the Nintendo's internet service.
Those Wii U owners who shell out for the higher end Wii U get more than added gigabytes and accessories. They also get access to Nintendo Network Premium.

The Nintendo Network is the Kyoto-based game company's online service. It's supposed to be free, but earlier this summer Nintendo said it could not promise that the network would always be free.

So what's the Nintendo Network Premium? Is it a paid service, like PlayStation Network Plus?

From the sound of it, Nintendo Network Premium is actually a rewards program. If you are a Premium user and you purchase a game (or presumably DLC), you get 10 percent of your purchase in points that can be exchanged for a pre-paid redemption code to trade in for games or DLC.

Nintendo Network Premium will only be offered until December 2014. No word on how Wii U owners who buy the no frills "basic" version can join Nintendo Network Premium.

List of some launch titles:

Saw some Black Ops II gameplay on it. I think It's cool how one person can play the game on the gamepad alone and another can play on the tv.

it's been done with split screen co op for ages. Show me some innovative things on it ffs.

I seriously don't see the point for that standard edition of wii u. If you are gonna pay 300 dollars for a console, might as well pay 50 more to get all the extras.

I mean 8 gb and 32 gb difference is huge.

and if the reason the wii u got bayonetta exclusivity is because they don't get a wii u version of metal gear rising revengenace, imma kil someone

that's different, Blues. I just think the fact that you can play the entire game on the gamepad is cool.

Agreeing that being able to play the game on just the gamepad is pretty cool. Makes looking forward to co-op games if Nintendo or any 3rd party are willing to explore that region.

Other then that the rest is pretty meh for me. Don't see any point in buying the standard edition as the black edition offers so much more. (Even though 32gb isn't that much these days >_>)

From what I see Nintendo has to rely on coming out with good quality games rather then focusing on there gimmicky/mini games antics as seen from the wii. If all things go well with the online I might consider buying one. (A sucker for those Monster Hunter games and all dem 1st party titles) If not well, lets say this will probably be Nintendo's last console.

I would find the split screen thing interesting, but for me, I game alone at my house and dont' have the time to have a friend come over that often to play it with me. Which is why online co-op > offline co-op at least in my situation.

I hate how Nintendo assumes you'll have more than one people playing the console so they base some of their games around the concept of "party" feel.

oh well SP nintendo first party games ftw.

Also glad that it comes straight with HDMI and not the others.

I suppose.

My biggest concern about the WiiU is that its specs are nothing we haven't seen before. One could say it's even underwhelming. Even with the innovative gamepad, Sony and Microsoft will be bringing out there new consoles soon with probably WAY higher specs then the WiiU.I feel its gnna be like this generation all over again with the Nintendo falling behind.

I don't think Nintendo is and will never be known for their consoles' tech specs. It all comes down to the games and the way they will utilize the WiiU's new features.

I'll admit that I wasn't expecting much in the first place, and I really don't mind.

Wii U's Scary Automatic Shutoff Feature

Be careful when you pause a Wii U game - it just might cost you.

Nintendo's new system features an 'automatic shutoff' feature, which turns off the system "if there has been no input for a set period of time," according to the system's manual. Here's the catch - a lack of input is still counted when a game is running and paused. We know - we had the system shut off on us when we left the system alone and came back after 90 minutes. System - off. Game progress - lost. By default, this option is activated, and appears to be set to activate after an hour, as we painfully learned.

All is not lost, however. This is able to be adjusted within the system options. You can turn the feature off entirely, or simply adjust the range of 'idle time' the system needs to register. All in all it's not a big deal - unless you don't know it exists. Then you might find yourself replaying a significant portion of a game, as we just did.
