Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (Remake of original 1970s version)

Post by MikuHatsune on Thu Aug 09, 2012 11:48 pm

The year is 2199. The human race has been crushed in their war with the Gamilos, driven into underground cities by the invader's assault. Scientists estimate they have only a year left. The young officers Susumu Kodai and Daisuke Shima receive a mysterious capsule from a ship that made an emergency landing on Mars and return with it to Earth. It contains humanity's last hope: the planet Iscandar on the other side of the Magellan Galaxy has the technology to defeat the Gamilos and restore the planet. The space battleship Yamato is entrusted with this task, but they have only one year before humanity ends.

the most noticeable thing is that they changed akira yamamoto from a male to a female (short silver haired chick)

Really digging the show, i love space operas so its only natural. So far theres 4 episodes out that are translated but 6 episodes are actually out
edit: the whole series will be showin in theatrical releases and after each thater release it will come out in dvd, the theatrical releases will be shown in a span of 1 year, the first 2 episodes came out as a theatrical release for the 1st premier, the next 4 episodes was from the second theatrical release and 2nd DVD/BR disc the 3rd premier which will show episode 7-10 will be release in theaters in japan on 2012-10-13, i expect the DVD/BD will be release sometime next month

you can find them in this URL here: http://www.animetake.com/space-battleship-yamato-2199-episode-1-4/

pics from the show:

and of course easily the catchiest theme song ever (original)

I haven't seen the original, and the only release for this new version doesn't seem like the best.

I don't know if I should just watch the original, or start with this one.

Color me excited! loved the old series, and by the look of the screenshots i will most likely love this one too! There need to be more Space Operas.. such a fantastic genre.

are these OVA's or 24 minute episodes? the quality in the pictures looks fantastic

Man... just finished watching episode 4... I hate this feeling :( Finally after so much waiting, a new awesome space series shows up... And its going to end and leave me sad and depressed while waiting for the next 10 years until we get another great and well written space opera that doesn't involve highschool girls with tits bigger than pamela anderson..

oh how i wish anime studios would make series with 20/30 year old main characters again...

Off-topic, but the main character of btooom!(fall 2012) will be 22 years old, and most of the cast(aside from 2 characters) are above the age of 20(including some middle-aged men)

Summary sounds interesting, but after google imaging.. Is there more to it than panties and tits? because 80% of the pictures are composed of just that. the Character design looks neat though, thanks for the headsup!

Edit: Read the first 3 chapters. Definitely interesting. Kinda reminds me of Gantz, meets battle royale

Edit 2: Just finished reading all volumes... Man this manga is awesome... i cannot wait for the anime adaption!

Episodes 1-6 are subbed in this batch:

EDIT: This batch also has better quality subs than the Nubles ones, they're much easier to read.

The girls are pretty delicious in this series.

Leiji's character designs were given a far better modern treatment than in Ozuma.

heck yeah, i mean hell i only wanted to watch it cause fukin battleships in space but this is a plus!

my favorite girls are akira (the girl fighter pilot) and kaoru niimi

probably cause theyre new additions to the remake that were never in the original anime much like the medical officer chick

Ahhh completely forgot about this, my site doesn't have a single episode of it.
Damn it and no AVI version either (with AVI I can just put it on a flash drive and watch it on my TV)
